Why Is Anorexia Viewed As An Illness But Over Eating Is Not?

For the people that actually rely on food as a coping mechanism. I think it's really unfortunate and just bad coping not someone who is weak with no self control and disgusting and a pig and whatever else people say. People look at the anorexic girl and think it's a shame and a disease but someone who over eats is just weak willed. Why?

You raise an excellent point. The truth is, it's because society is shallow. "Too thin" is still closer to our current idea of beauty than "too fat", so anorexia is treated with sympathy while overeating is a sign that you're a horrible person.

It's also worth pointing out there's a multitude of factors that lead to a person being fat, from genetics to environment to social factors to money (America in particular is now in the bizarre position of having our cheapest foods also be the most fattening), but people tend to boil it down to "self-control" so that they can ignore this.

Anorexia is what makes you inhuman to the rest of the world. 20% of population of the whole world have anorexia, as for 80% of the people in the whole world are either muscular or fat.

We live in a society where fat people are perfectly acceptable and seen as the norm, but the media has made us believe that thin people all have eating disorders because they are not fat like everyone else.

You want to know why ? Because our society is ****** up to the max and it will never change. I had anorexia not that long ago, and its not pretty. But neither is over eating. The way people see it, is that binge eating is a physical choice whereas anorexia is a psycological illness which the beholder has no control over
