The lessons in the old saying, "Rome wasn't built in a day..." seem to be lost on a lot of people these days...Being 40 pounds overweight didn't happen overnight...And, it's not 'baby fat' from when she was 'little'...IT is visceral adiposity accumulated over a lifetime of taking in too many calories, and then not burning them off with some exercise... Plain and simple...Why does the problem have to get fixed in two weeks?Which, it can't by the way - this isn't just about food and laziness...It goes way deeper than that, now...One really can get the beginnings of a "Fix" of such a problem here, but one must not look for the easy way out to get it... Otherwise, one will be condemned to a lifetime of continually looking for that easy way out - which doesn't exist...

She probably needs to lose 25 - 30 lbs to be at a really healthy weight for her age. That can?t be done in two weeks. Healthy weight loss is between 1-2 lbs a week, and that?s with really hard work. She should expect it to take 4 to 5 months to lose that weight, and then she?ll need to maintain those lifestyle changes to keep it off.   That means an active lifestyle, with regular exercise as a part of each(or most days), and a diet that consists of mostly vegetables and fruits, whole grains and lean protein.   Being a healthy weight means more than just looking good, or even feeling good. It means enjoying good health, and increasing your chances for a long productive life, with less obesity related disease.   I wish your friend luck. You can do a lot to encourage and help her, so she?s lucky to have you take an interest.     The typical American family. We really do eat too much, and don?t exercise enough!
