Do I Have To Use Lipton Onion Soup In The Cabbage Soup Recipe?

If you are referring to one of the Soups used for the Cabbage Soup diet, then your answer is a definite No.
Lipton (dry) Onion soup mixes are great flavor boosters but they are also loaded with salt and I don't see how salt will help with weight loss.
My husband went on this diet years ago and did lose quite a bit of weight, but gained it back when he went back to eating desserts and sandwiches every day.
I definitely did not use Onion Soup mix in his Cabbage Soup, Anyway, I think this is the recipe I used.
You are allowed other foods on this 7 Day diet.
Go to website below, for the full diet.

7-Day Diet Weight Loss Soup (Wonder Soup)

Ingredients

½ head of cabbage, chopped

1 cup celery, diced

1 cup white or yellow onion, diced

1 cup carrots, diced

1 green bell pepper, diced

2-3 cloves garlic, minced

4 cups chicken broth (low sodium)

14 oz can diced tomatoes with basil & garlic

Note: I could not find canned tomatoes with garlic & basil and am pretty sure I used plain chopped tomatoes or whole canned tomatoes that I smashed up.

1 teaspoon oregano (dried)

1 teaspoon basil (dried)

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (I did not use these either, but will if I make this in the future)

few shakes of black pepper

½ teaspoon salt (optional)

Instructions

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Add celery, onions, bell peppers, and carrots.

Saute until slightly tender.

Stir in garlic.

Pour in chicken broth.

Stir in tomatoes and cabbage.

Bring to a boil and then reduce heat.

Cook until cabbage is tender.

Stir in oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, black pepper and salt (if using)

Taste broth and adjust seasoning if needed.

Serve and enjoy!

Notes

~TIPS~ Jazz it up by adding lots of spices, herbs and a variety of veggies. This makes enough for about 3 days. Keeps well in the fridge for about 3 days.
Note: Chopped fresh herbs like dill, parsley and basil add great freshness to this or any soup.

You don't exactly HAVE to, but it does make a pretty tasty cabbage soup...

Certainly not. You should get the same result with any brand, or you can use a beef boullion cube and some dessicated onion boiled in water.

it is your soup!! leave out or add whatever you wish. I would add several minced onions, some minced celery, some grated carrot then season to YOUR taste with salt, pepper, etc.

"Do I have to"

You need to realize that if you MUST make a recipe exactly as it is written, you can not substitute a thing!

Then realize that THIS IS YOUR FOOD!!! Prepare it as you wish and to your tastes. I'm guessing you don't like the thought of onion soup in your cabbage recipe. If so, use something else that YOU like (garlic maybe? celery?) or nothing at all!

After it is done, you may decide to NEVER use the soup mix, or NEVER do without it!
