But in a calcium research demonstrated that key organs and bodily functions like your metabolism and heart need calcium to operate at their best. Here we have some benefits of this mineral: Calcium helps keep the weight off, in other words, if you don?t get enough calcium in your diet, you?re likely to be overweight, it is because your body responses to a calcium deficit, when you are low in calcium, your body thinks that you?re starving and enters in an emergency mode and activate a hormone, which stimulates your bones to release some calcium into your bloodstream, and your kidneys also release a dose of a hormone called calcitriol, a form of vitamin D, to increase your ability to absorb calcium. The problem is that the calcitrol also stimulates the production of fat and inhibit its breakdown. As a result, your body stores fat and keep it, even if you?re on a low-calorie diet. On the other side, a high calcium intake suppresses these hormones, so your body stores less fat and also breaks it down easily. We can find other benefits of calcium, for instance, it protects your heart, protects you against colon cancer and also improves premenstrual moods.
